Local Government

Local government can’t maintain the public trust if it reacts to unsubstantiated concerns about STR, an orchestrated campaign of lodging industry misinformation, by diminishing the ability of homeowners throughout Wilmington to enjoy the value of their property.

Confidence in local government may not be sustained, if City Council terminates a growing source of sales tax revenue, occupancy tax revenue, and economic stimulation for local shops, restaurants, microbreweries, and other vendors….in the wake of the disastrous, government-induced loss of our once-thriving local film industry.

Public trust in our local leaders will be threatened, if the economic benefits of tourists’ demand for lodging in this beautiful coastal community are actively promoted at the beaches and the Central Business District, while discouraged or prohibited in the rest of Wilmington and New Hanover County.

Wilmington Planning Department:

"Cities, like people, are constantly changing and evolving. Nostalgia, which fuels our resentment toward change, is a natural human impulse, and yet being forever content with a spouse, or a street, requires finding ways to be happy with different versions of that person or neighborhood."
